What Brands Are Doing for Women’s History Month 2021
Women's History Month is a celebratory expansion of National Women’s History Week which is a celebratory expansion of International Women's Day. The simple fact that we have to declare or have a President declare for us an entire day, week, and month recognizing and celebrating women and our contributions and achievements in history, culture, and society which would otherwise be swept under the rug by a certain breed of men is mindboggling but alas, here we are.
Anyway, this year quite a few Brands are launching initiatives to seek out, acknowledge achievements, and celebrate women this month. Here are just a few. I am including the link to an article and then I've posted my opinion about how well these companies have done to bring awareness or aid in the cause.
For me, the Stayfree Project Free Period was the most impactful of all of the companies shown in the article "Here's What Brands are Doing for Women's History Month 2021." I know that prostitution is a way of life for many women in every country across the globe, many women are tricked, others have no other choice, most have children to care for. The Stayfree Project is helping in a way that so many other companies could thereby reaching so many more women. Teaching a skill that can raise them out of their situations, give them back their dignity, and allow them to feel that their children can be proud of the work they do is PHENOMENAL! So many million/billion dollar companies like Hershey's could do so much more than giving away chocolate bars.....I am personally so disappointed in the short-sightedness of a company that has been around for literally 127 years, that has seen so much change in the world, and still only came up with a way to promote their company through a gimmick and passing it off as supporting the cause. I don't know if I will ever buy another Hershey product again. But that's a conversation for another day.
Moving on, the next most effective campaign was Interflora's OOH using a huge bouquet of white roses and only three red roses to represent that "Only 6.1% of current world leaders are women." That visual was stunning. That there is still such a disproportionate number of women in real lead roles is staggering. Thankfully President Joe Biden has appointed 5 women in top positions right out of the gate including the first female treasury secretary, Janet Yellen and Deb Haaland, the first Native American Cabinet member as interior secretary. Not to mention our Nation's first ever female Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris who has blown the ceiling off for many little girls and many more elections to come. Not only has this administration done and is doing what no other before them has but this administration is also showing other countries that a well run government needs to be diverse with age differences from 39 to 70+ for different views to make a well rounded decisions.
