INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Burger King Gets Grilled for 'Women Belong in the Kitchen' Tweet Supporting Female Chefs

Soooooo, Burger King has a new scholarship that raises women up and helps them advance in the culinary world that has traditionally been male dominant. H.E.R. (Helping Equalize Restaurants) Scholarship, offers financial assistance to women who work at Burger King to achieve an academic degree in culinary arts. That is BEYOND FABULOUS!

Unfortunately, HATERS GONNA HATE. The haters in the Twittersphere just couldn't help themselves but twist this message around to its most, derogatory meaning. Posting the headline by itself out of context for all of  Twitterlandia to be incensed and create bad publicity for Burger King. The very, very, sad part about all of this aside from the sheer meanness and pettiness is that because Burger King UK was forced to delete this really wonderful, very tongue-in-cheek message, how many women will not see that Burger King is, in fact, offering the deal of a lifetime if you are interested in Culinary Arts and even if you don't know for sure, this is a wonderful experience to see if you really are passionate enough to want to complete the courses. This campaign could change the lives of so many women that may be struggling for a better life or a spot in the Game of Life that gives them a fair shot.

I worked for BK when I was just 14 years old, I lied and said I was 16. At that time some 30+ (cough) years ago, employers didn't really care too much about your age as long as you did the work properly. Anyhoo, if this H.E.R program had been in effect way back when who knows, I might've ended up being a chef......oh...I actually was a chef already. But that's a conversation for another day.

The bottom line here IMHO is that the Twitterverse HATERS should find something constructive to do with their time instead of trying to make headlines and have their 5 minutes of retweeting or retweeting with quote fame. If what BK is doing is so bad and their ironic slogan, OBVIOUSLY meant to grab EVERYONE'S attention in a tongue-in-cheek way is so distasteful, then the HATERS need to step up and offer a better campaign idea and scholarship money for all of the women who will not see the original ad. That is my peace for this week.
