CALLIGRAPHY, ADOBE MAX AND THE SECRET LIFE OF KEYS

November 7, 2021

CALLIGRAPHY,  ADOBE MAX, AND
THE SECRET LIFE OF KEYS

These past few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind! Beginning with three more than full days of Abobe MAX! Only the most incredible, creativity conference ever for anyone with an interest in digital art of any kind. Back-to-back-to-back sessions with überpros from every aspect of Digital Design and Production!
With Key Speakers like TILDA SWINTON!!! Only one of my favorite thespians of ALL TIME!!!

This has been my second year attending Adobe Max (some great things did come out of the lockdown). I would never have been able to afford the tickets and thankfully, someone had the wherewithal to create an online event accessible to anyone and everyone...for.....free. My schedule was set the same day I registered and apart from actual life moments, my face was quite literally glued to the screen.

There are so many new updates, software, and techniques coming down the pipeline, having seen the demonstrations I can't wait to try them all out myself! If you haven't seen Adobe Max 2021, you really are missing out!

When I was in my 20s, I had several styles of Calligraphy pens: plumes, glass, metal, bamboo, and I would send every occasion card/letter handwritten in pen and ink. I had created my own swirls and swishes and absolutely LOVED the personal touch it gave to whatever I wrote on. Fast forward, it has been several years that I have not touched a calligraphy pen so it was both surprising and then really not how rusty I have become. So the old adage, "Use it or lose it" is for real! Here a just a few of my practice sheets, no worries, there is more to follow in my future post. Lol!

This is my very rough sketch of the book cover that is our ongoing assignment. I haven't decided which cover to use. The covers are based on two chapters of the book The MAC is Not a Typewriter by Robin Williams. The chapters I chose are Special Characters & Accent Marks. If you've never heard of it or just haven't downloaded it yet, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO SO!

These below are the Digital Versions created in Adobe Illustrator, These are by no means the finished product, just roughs to see what's working and what isn't.

I think I am a bit partial to design #3. What do you think?
